What does your 2SLGBTQIA+ identity mean to you?

I identify as Queer and Lesbian. This means that I have freedom to be my true and authentic self every day. That I dont have to hide what feels like a significant part of what makes up "me". I have spent a good part of my life hiding it and trying to make up for it in other ways that were unhealthy, so being able to now claim this part of my identity feels very freeing and gives me clarity and hope for a beautiful life.

What makes you feel empowered in your identity?

I feel empowered to just be myself. I dont feel the need to wear certain clothes that dont feel like me, or to be in spaces that dont represent and accept the 2SLGBTQIA + community. I think i just feel empowered to be free of any box I put myself in before I accepted my queerness.

What is one (or more) of your favorite things about yourself?

I love my interest in getting to know people for who they truly are and making genuine connections. I would be friends with anyone so long as you arent homophobic ;) I also love my smile, and the fact that i dont feel like i have to wear makeup or look a certain way every day.

What is your favorite part about the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Oklahoma? What would you like to see more of?

I feel that the OKC LGBTQ + Community is very open for connection and inclusive to anyone who identifies. I have met multiple queer people since coming out and getting married to my wife. before I came out I was not confident enough to make those connections. I would tell everyone in our community to keep being open to connection not just within our community but with the OKC community at large . We wont tolerate hate or unacceptance but we can tell our stories and educate others so that we can all be understanding of our similarities and our differences.
