What does your 2SLGBTQ+ identity mean to you?

My identity means the freedom to write my own script. It's the joy in reclaiming labels like queer and Dyke. There are no arbitrary rules to follow, and I don't have any obligation to explain my queer identities to anyone (though if you ask respectfully, | genuinely love talking about them).

What makes you feel empowered in your identity?

Getting to use gender as a tool for feeling at home in my body has been super empowering for me. Giving myself the freedom to listen to my body, focusing on what brings me those feelings of euphoria. It can be as simple as what shirt I wear that day and as complex as changing my name after years of knowing the old one didn’t sit right with me.

What is one (or more) of your favorite things about yourself?

I love my commitment to creating a safe space both for myself and for others. I intimately know the feeling of being overlooked or belittled in your struggles. I’ve made it a priority to be the person I always needed when I was younger to my now grown self, and also make certain that anyone who needs a safe space to exist can have that with me.

What is your favorite part about the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Oklahoma? What would you like to see more of?

I love our resilience and the way we step up for each other. I never thought I’d get to exist in a world where I have lesbians to look up to and learn from, or trans/non-binary friends that support me without me even asking. It’s wild. I’d love to see more inclusive sober spaces. I love kickin it at Alibis and Angles, but I want safe spaces for sober individuals and queer people of all ages to exist and have fun.
