Getting Comfy with Yourself

I’ve noticed a few things:

1. I’m less concerned about my general shape. My body is my body and it’s beautiful. I’ve worked really hard to get myself here in this moment and I’ve felt a sense of importance in honoring that mere fact. Sometimes I’m smaller and sometimes I’m not.

2. I’m still awkward in front of the camera BUT I am able to accept that awkwardness and channel it into just letting go and having fun with it - authentic photos happen when we’re vulnerable.

3. I’m less concerned about my appearance (different from #1). I’m less concerned about what I’m wearing, what my hair looks like, etc. Some of these photos I did after waking up, throwing some clothes on and just sitting in front of the camera. No hair fixing, no shower. Just me.

Self Portraits as a Self-Love Practice

Something I’ve been doing is putting myself in front of the camera more. Wether I’ve commissioned another photographer or I’m doing self portraits.

There is only one you

I say some of this to you all out there that are nervous or uncomfortable in front of the camera. Is this a cure all. NO! But it is a nice start to loving yourself, your body, and accepting that you are a beautiful human no matter the number on the scale. No matter how those clothes you just bought fit. No matter if you fixed your hair and did your makeup. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND WORTHY OF AMAZING PHOTOS! So I say all of this after almost 4 years now of full time photography. YOU ARE NOT TOO FAT or TOO SMALL or TOO whatever to celebrate your body and YOU!

Love y’all! —AJ
