Preparing For Your Headshot Session

Getting the most out of your session

Getting new business headshots doesn’t have to feel like school picture day. With headshots, nothing is the focus except YOU. So why not let your unique personality shine through? Here are some tips for getting the most out of your headshot session and creating photos that truly stand out.

Personalize your outfit

With headshots, it’s all about the little details that make you feel most yourself. Wearing that suit that fits you perfectly, or your favorite accessory. Doing that hairstyle that makes you feel like you and picking out your favorite color as the backdrop. If you are feeling confident and in tune with yourself, that will translate through the photos (and vice versa!). Your headshot might be the first point of contact for potential clients, employers, etc. Don’t dim yourself in these photos, let them have a glimpse into who you are!

Prepare what you wear

Every little detail will show up on these images. While your images do get a full retouch where we remove blemishes/marks that won’t be there in two weeks and smooth out your skin, be aware of lint and animal hairs on clothing. Bring a lint roller if you’re wearing a fabric that gets dirty easily, or if you have fur babies at home that cover your clothes in hair. While your image will get a full retouch, certain fabrics just attract too much lint to fully fix in post-production.

have fun with it

Headshots don’t have to be a chore. Let loose and come into your session with an open mind. Sometimes it takes more than one shot or pose to find an image you really love. But that is totally okay! I promise that if you slow down and let yourself enjoy the process, you might learn something new about yourself!
